We’ve seen some discouraging estimates regarding the new lake
dam.
And it’s difficult to understand probably an over-engineered
project that may have increased the price beyond reason.
But, we should think of what the lake is really worth.
Today is only one aspect, since we expect it to be in place
many years to come.
Those most affected by the restoration no doubt will be very
happy to see the water sparkling in the sun again.
Hope Mills has changed so much and grown so rapidly that it is
no longer the familiar mill town so many of us enjoyed and
remembered so fondly.
So, with our centerpiece, a lake so few places had to anchor
their town now vanished, we have lost what made our town
distinctive, different, more scenic, attractive and enjoyable.
What will a large central lake be worth to Hope Mills 25 years
from now or a hundred years?
Think about that.
Will it be beyond price?
Glad we have Friends of Hope Mills Lake to remind us of our
treasure.
